Long ago - today

Hi

Another song is bubbling along, it has a working title of "Long ago" and came from a practice session, I just started strumming and a riff developed and it just went from there, funny how it sometimes comes from nowhere. I think it will play well live but the lyrics are far from ready. The practice is going well so I am going to try and play a couple of open mic sessions over the next week or so.

Words not sticking

Hi

The last couple of days I've been practicing to get ready for the gigs coming up soon, I have much more of an idea now what will work and a rough running order. One problem is remembering all the lyrics, you may think that as I wrote all the lyrics I should know them all, well it doesn't quite work like that as all of the songs sometimes seem to merge into one. But the thought of getting up in front loads of people certainly focuses the mind into learning them.

I will keep you informed of how I get on.

Getting Organised

Hi

One of the things you have to do in producing a commercial CD is to make sure you register it correctly. So in setting up the record company Key Music Records I needed to make sure that it was registered with PPL. Phonographic Performance Ltd. (PPL) who are the registered body in the UK for recordings also look after what is called "ISRC", This is the International Standard Recording Code and every track on every commercially released CD has a unique code to identify it. Amazing really what goes on to make sure that copyright identity is preserved. So this is what I got back today the ISRC codes and PPL registration for Key Music Records.

I now have a Record Label ready to go!

Gig booked

Hi

Well another bit of good news today as I have got a gig lined up at the Tube club in Archway, London for the Thursday 30th March, I know about time too, but I needed time to get some more material together. I'm not quite sure yet whether to play a fully acoustic set or mix it with some backing track stuff. Into rehearsals next week and we'll see what works best.

Track of the day

Hi

Well some good news today, a website ( Garageband.com ) which I use to promote and get reviews of my tracks sent me an email telling me that one of my tracks called "You're Gone" was going to be track of the day next week. It was a nice surprise to say the least. So next Monday 27th I will have my name in lights, well, pixels anyway. It will be interesting to see whether the traffic on my site increases that day.

A true review

Hi

Well another day and still improving, I think that it will be a while till I can get back singing properly but then again for some that might be a good thing. I have had a good review of one of my tracks "You're Gone" from the site, here it is;

A fine artist
Different, musical, innovative, simply interesting music performed artistically on a high level! Great mix of sound textures, wonderful word play in the lyrics. The vocalist is strong, has style, and knows how to phrase the song to get the maximum out of the composition and intentionaly mood. Really more of a small piece of artwork than a song. This is classy stuff. An excellent track well worth the listen.

OK Herr Bach from Germany the cheque is in the post, - thanks for this it is so rewarding when you feel that you have touched someone with your music, it makes it all so worthwhile.

Out of the woods

Hi

At last I am starting to feel a bit better as the antibiotics start to work their magic, it's been a really tough week and it's amazing how something good can come out of it all. That good point was I wrote another song and it flowed very very quickly. The song entitled "Turning around" is a great track to play and I think it will be well received played live. If you want to the lyrics as they stand at the moment then click the link.

Now it's not fun

Hi

Sorry for the lack of posts but I haven't been well at all, I have a bad chest infection from the flu and a touch of pleurisy, ouch!, so breathing is a bit difficult at the moment. I have a week of antibiotics which hopefully should do the trick, I hope so as this is starting to really get me down.

Flu

Hi

Well no posts over the last few days as I have been laid up with a bad case of the flu, I have to say it has absolutely floored me so my mind or for that matter body has not been on things. Hopefully I should pick up in the next couple of days.

Editing away

Hi

I am trying to get the latest eNews out the door but there are a few things I want to include, as January was such as busy month I wanted to finish a rough video edit of my trip to Midem plus the Gospel recording session, so that is what I have been doing today editing away, these are not the finished pieces but enough for the subscribers to eNews to link to on the site and have a look.

I want to get this issue out by the weekend a week later than normal but I think it is worth it. So back to the editing and compressing to enable streaming video from the site.

Arch revealed

Hi

It has been groundhog day today, with the weather foiling my filming plans yet again, so as yesterday I am out but this time at the Arc de Triomph. One surprising thing about the arc is that at the top it is hollow and it holds a museum inside. You knew that?, OK sorry I'll try harder next time. Back to London tonight.

Taking a break

Hi

Well I have just been looking at the past blog entries and it's been quite a 6 months, I am so glad I have written it all down as it is easy to forget everything that has been going on, actually some things I would really rather forget, anyway I'm going to take break from the blog writing this week and take a real step back and see where I am in the whole project. I need to get some strategy going for the next few months. I am working over here in Paris but will taking the weekend off. Speak to you then.
